VINCENT VAN GOGH (1853-1890), ATTRIBUTED TO, OIL ON CANVAS - VINCENT VAN GOGH (1853-1890), ATTRIBUTED TO, OIL ON CANVAS Dimensions: Image size: 50.2 x 60.5 cm. All measured values are approximate. Signature: Vincent van Gogh Description: A vivid rural composition depicting three female agricultural workers bending over in a broad field beneath an animated, dramatically rendered sky. The foreground is dominated by expansive passages of yellow, ochre, cream, and touches of green, articulated through energetic directional brushwork that gives the field a strongly textured and rhythmic appearance. At the center, the three figures are dressed in blue and gray garments with pale head coverings, their bent postures emphasizing the physical character of agricultural labor and creating a concentrated figurative group within the open landscape. In the distance, a row of cottages with steeply pitched roofs extends across the right side of the horizon, while an intense orange sun descends behind the buildings. Above, sweeping bands of white, blue, green, yellow, and reddish-brown form a turbulent sky of curling and undulating strokes, introducing a pronounced sense of movement throughout the upper half of the composition. The juxtaposition of complementary blues and yellows, strongly outlined figures, expressive handling of the landscape, and rhythmic, swirling brushwork reflects visual characteristics closely associated with Vincent van Gogh's late nineteenth-century approach to rural subjects and the expressive possibilities of color and line. The composition recalls the artist's sustained interest in peasants, field workers, harvest scenes, and the agricultural landscape during his years in southern France. The lower right is signed ”Vincent.”
