PAUL CEZANNE (1839-1906), STILL LIFE WITH APPLES, OIL ON CANVAS - PAUL CEZANNE (1839-1906), STILL LIFE WITH APPLES, OIL ON CANVAS Dimensions: Image size: 31.8 x 40.8 cm. All measured values are approximate. Outer frame size: 45.6 x 54.7 cm. All measured values are approximate. Signature: Paul Cezanne Description: A richly modeled still life centered on a group of apples arranged across a dark tabletop. Several red, orange, yellow, and green fruits are gathered on a shallow blue-edged plate, while additional apples rest independently to the right, creating a measured rhythm across the composition. A large pale bowl occupies the left side, balanced by a slender glass rising behind the fruit near the center. The surrounding interior is constructed through layered passages of blue, green, ochre, cream, and deep brown, with shifting planes and subtly altered perspective contributing to the spatial tension characteristic of Cezanne's still-life compositions. Broad, deliberate brushwork gives the fruit a substantial physical presence while allowing color relationships to define volume and structure. The upper left bears the signature ”P. Cezanne.” The reverse shows an aged canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher with several paper labels attached. The work is presented in a substantial carved wooden frame with restrained decorative detailing.
