The unification of the Churches appears to him as a necessary preparatory stage for the transformation of ”the great human unity into the universal body of God-manhood.” This unification, according to Solovyov, is hindered by the national egoism of the Russian people, which must be overcome. In addition, it is necessary to achieve independence of the Orthodox Church from the state. Fair Condition. Vladimir Solovyov - 1853-1900. Was a Russian philosopher, theologian, poet, pamphleteer, and literary critic, played a significant role in the development of Russian philosophy and poetry at the end of the 19th century. He was an active member of Society for the Promotion of Culture Among the Jews of Russia, he spoke Hebrew and struggled to reconcile Judaism and Christianity. Politically, he became renowned as the leading defender of Jewish civil rights in tsarist Russia in the 1880s. The Jewish Encyclopedia describes him as ”a friend of the Jews”.
