HISTORIC UNICUM: The World’s First Hebrew Report on the Fall of Hungary, the Nazi Occupation, the Escape, the Jewish Resistance, and the Onset of the Holocaust – Written Less Than Two Months After the Start of the German Invasion! - The Zoli Report” from Hungary – Historical Document by Israel Zoltan [Zoli] Harari. Written in Nahalat Yehuda, May 17, 1944 . Physical Description : 4 pages, typescript on light blue paper, large format. Features dozens of handwritten corrections, emendations, and deletions Historical Background : Israel Harari (1921-2012) was born in Kosice, Slovakia. In 1941, he was dispatched to Budapest on behalf of the ”Hashomer Hatzair” movement. His mission was critical: to organize the local Zionist underground networks, secure weapons, locate hiding places, hoard food, and desperately warn Hungarian Jewry of the impending annihilation. Concurrently, he managed the influx of Jewish refugees fleeing from Austria, Slovakia, and Poland. After enduring perilous hardships and navigating tortuous escape routes, Harari successfully reached Mandatory Palestine. He joined Kibbutz Vav (established in ”Nahalat Yehuda” near Rishon LeZion) and later became one of the founders of Kibbutz Ein Dor. Content of the Report : In this gripping document, Harari provides a real-time account of the German invasion and the collapse of the corrupt Hungarian regime, noting the complete lack of local resistance. He chronicles the shuttering of the free press, the brutal arrival of the Gestapo , and the existential threat to the Jewish population. He uniquely highlights the precarious situation of the refugees - whose lack of official registration temporarily shielded them from systematic extermination. The report details daring escape attempts, the stockpiling of food and arms, sophisticated border-smuggling operations, and the blessed, lifesaving operations of Shimon Brood. Furthermore, Harari describes his own harrowing evacuation via the Port of Constanta, Romania - remarkably convoyed by a German warship! He notes that Constanta served as a pivotal naval hub where German reinforcements were deployed to the Eastern Front, and from which wounded, exhausted Nazi soldiers retreated. A Museum-Quality Rarity : This is a monumental, museum-grade artifact. It stands as the world's first comprehensive report written in the Hebrew language documenting the Nazi invasion, the underground resistance, and the onset of the Holocaust in Hungary . Crucially, it was composed less than two months after the German invasion began. * Condition: Good. * Archival Context: For reference, an oral testimony by Israel Zoli Harari (given in Hungarian to Zoltan Mohr in 1961) is preserved within the Yad Yaari Research and Documentation Center. A true museum piece. A unique, one-of-a-kind historical unicum.
