Hampden green was the pigment used by the federal government for the first U.S. paper money - the iconic Greenbacks issued during the Civil War - due to its unique, hard-to-remove color. Company ephemera from the early 20th century can be found online, including an advertisement for Hampden Sunray Mill White Oil Paint that may date to the 1940s – 1950s.
