Marked on the base: American Hoist & Derrick Co - Sole M'N'F'R'S - St Paul - U.S.A. Genuine Crosby products are manufactured by The Crosby Group (now Kitco Crosby following their merger). The company manufacturers premium, forged steel rigging hardware ( shackles and wire rope clips ) which can be identified by the company's trademarked Red Pin, stamped ”Crosby” or ”CG” logo, and a forged Product Identification Code (PIC) for tracing. History: The American Crane Corporation was founded in 1882 as the Franklin Manufacturing Company. In 1892, the name was changed to American Hoist & Derrick. A wire rope clamp designed to loop wire cable without the losing the integrity of the wire was invented by Oliver Crosby in 1886. Online resources suggest Crosby operated as a subsidiary of American Hoist and was spun off in 1971. In 1985, the crane division was spun off as American Crane Corporation, later acquired by Terex.
