The Henry Ford Museum has a record of their factory in 1861. They are described as making varnishes railroad cars, carriages, wagons, furniture, and farm implements. The business was reputably started by Joseph Berry in 1858. His brother Thomas joined the business in 1860 and it was (re)named Berry Brothers Varnish, Inc .
