Crane & Breed Casket Co Advertising Paperweight - One side reads The Crane and Breed Caskets Co. The other side reads Rustless Zinc Caskets. Located in Cincinnati Ohio. The paperweight appears to be painted zinc. History, per Google and Coachbuilt dot com : The company was founded in 1853. Early on, they reputably manufactured stoves and hollow ware as well as burial cases. In 1857, they introduced the first zinc casket. One of their caskets was chosen for Abraham Lincoln's burial. Later, they built ornate horse-drawn hearses, built the nation's first motorized hearse in 1909 ( followed by ambulances ). They also branched into undertaker supplies. The company published ?Scientific Ventilation; or Ventilation Based Upon the Motive Power of Heat? 1871. They were briefly in the steam heating and ventilation system business. Following reorganization in 1882, the M.H. Crane Company - the predecessor of today's Crane Company - was founded to pursue the heating and ventiliation business.
