Hanging Shabbat lamp - "The Jewish Star" - Germany
Hanging Shabbat lamp made of brass. 19th Germany, five oil filler and wicking wicks, star shaped. Under the star hangs another bowl for draining the oil.
The shining star in the center of the menorah became known as the "Jewish Star" ("Judenstern"). Chandeliers of this type and similar ones were common in Jewish homes in Germany and were dedicated to lighting the Shabbat candles.
