Bezalel Jerusalem. A wooden box with a description of the Dome of the Rock, the end of the 19th century, the first known Jewish manufacturer of olive trees in Jerusalem was Haim Ya'akov, who in 1858 established a shop called: ”Olive Trees in Jerusalem”. Another one was Rabbi Yehiel Zvi Chimrinsky, ”the first of the Jerusalem artisans” who competed with Christian manufacturers and the olive wood shops of Bethlehem, his shop was located in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. Another well-known artist was Meir Rosin who was born in Vitebsk, Russia in 1876 and immigrated to Jerusalem in 1891. He began making a living as a sign painter and then made souvenirs which he sold in his shop near the Tower of David. Later he moved to the Armenian quarter. In 1913 Rosin opened a small museum in his home to display his work. He was the founder of a group of artists and craftsmen in Jerusalem in 1915. He died in 1917. Bezalel School opened the wood department in 1908 under the direction of Eliyahu Adam. Dimensions: 15 cm high, 23.5 cm wide, 31.5 cm long. Source: private collection.
