Decorated copper plate for distinction - Heinrich Schwed - Munich, 1924, marked. A small copper plate for the Havdalah, decorated with verses and shields of David, made by Heinrich Schwed. Munich, [circa 1924]. On the edge of the center of the plate is engraved a circular inscription - ”The Lord's commandment is a light for the eyes” (Psalms 199), as well as a Star of David surrounded by the Hebrew punctuation marks. In the middle are engraved the traditional wishes ”Got Wach” [Good week] and ”Got Yahar” [Good year]. The rim of the plate is decorated with shields of David. The plate is marked in the center ”HSM” (Heinrich Schwed, Munich). Heinrich Schwed (1880-1962), born in Reichmannsdorf, Germany. In 1924 he established a trading house in Munich ”for handicraft objects” and next to it a workshop for the production of such objects. Schwed continued to create decorated plates, advertising signs and other objects until 1937, when the business was confiscated by the Nazi authorities and he himself left Germany with his family and found refuge in Argentina.
