Silver Cup Commemorating the Silver Jubilee of the Order of Fraternity ”Don Abarbanel, Covenant of Abraham”. New York, 1912 A stamped silver cup, commemorating the Silver Jubilee of the Jewish Order of Fraternity ”Don Abarbanel Covenant of Abraham”, with the image of the ”American Eagle” on a Star of David with the initials of the organization's name, and with the image of Rabbi Don Yitzhak Abarbanel. New York, 10.3.1912. Specifications: [1] Silver cup signed STERLING and the artist's stamp. Height 14 cm. Maximum diameter 6 cm. Two reliefs on both sides of the cup - a relief of the ”American Eagle” with details of the anniversary event of the Order of ”Brit Abraham”, and a relief of the image of Don Abarbanel. Condition: Good The Jewish Order of Fraternity ”Don Abarbanel Covenant of Abraham” [”Independent Order of the Covenant of Abraham”], the OBA, was founded in 1887. This order was one of a series of Jewish social organizations for mutual aid that arose in the 19th century, in America and England. Among their other goals, the organizations provided relief in cases of distress, illness, and orphanhood. They worked for education and to arrange life insurance among members of the order. Often, the fraternal orders operated according to the Freemasons' model of operation. With the increase in the activity of commercial insurance companies, the activity of companies that care for the needs of the dead, and the activity of leisure culture, the prestige of the fraternal orders declined and the number of members registered with them decreased significantly.
