Embroidered Matzo Cover - Hungary, 1878 Matzo Cover. Hungary, 1878 [1878]. Cotton thread embroidery on canvas; gold metal thread finish. Square canvas with truncated corners, with three compartments, with three embroidered tabs - ”Cohen”, ”Levi” and ”[Y]srael”. In the outer frame is the embroidered inscription ”Blessed are you, our God, King of the World, who has sanctified us with his commandments and commandments”, and in the inner frame - ”On eating matzo, 1878”. In the center are embroidered floral decorations, and around is a green frame, with additional flowers. The edges of the canvas are embroidered with gold metal threads. Approx. 46X41 cm. Fair-good condition. Many stains (mainly on the back). Threads unraveled, with slight disruptions in the text and decorations. Source: Private collection
