Silk Bookmark – ”Blessing of the Priests” – England, 19th Century A silk bookmark with the ”Blessing of the Priests” text. Manufacturer: Thomas Stevens, Coventry (England), [second half of the 19th century]. Hebrew and English. Machine-woven silk. The woven bookmark has the inscription: ”With best wishes / The Lord bless thee and keep thee: The Lord make his face to shine upon thee And be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee And give thee Peace” in beautiful colored letters, decorated with floral designs. The bookmark is signed on the back ”T. Stevens, Coventry”. Coventry was a center of the silk industry in England, and in 1862 Thomas Stevens began producing embroidered bookmarks there with various images and inscriptions. 23X5.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. A few creases. Tears.
