Gold Medal 500th Anniversary of the Expulsion of the Jews of Spain State Medal, 1992. Purity: 917, Weight: 30 grams , Diameter: 35.0 mm, Quantity: 994 pieces, housed in an olive wood box. Obverse of the medal: Map of the deportation with directions of departure by land and sea. A ship typical of the period depicting the journey and suffering of the deportees. Below the map, the verse ”I shall not die because I shall live” and ”I SHALL NOT DIE BUT LIVE”. In the upper part, along the circumference, the inscription ”500 years of the expulsion of the Jews of Spain” and ”ANOS DE LA EXPULSION 500”. In the lower part, along the circumference, the years ”1492-1992•HN”B-H5752”. Reverse of the medal: A wall from the synagogue of Shmuel Halevi Abulafia of Toledo from the 14th century, on which are inscribed several Psalms. To the right is the figure of a Jew in traditional costume from the period of Muslim rule, a seal of Todorus Halevi and in the background the sephirot of the Kabbalah. In the lower part, the verse ”My soul longed and longed for the courts of God.”
