Bidspirit auction | A ”Pashkvil” poster (a street

A ”Pashkvil” poster (a street advertisement/Haredi protest) that is a copy of three letters from historical rebbes from the early days of Hasidism. The purpose of the advertisement is to declare a ban on slaughter and a strict halakhic boycott in the struggle over the definition of slaughter boundaries (overstepping the boundaries of local slaughterers' livelihoods). Content of the boycott and prohibition: The letter takes a particularly strong stance against slaughterers who ”overstep the boundaries” and enter the territory of other regular slaughterers in order to take their livelihoods. The halakhic reasoning: The Rebbe of Apta defines someone who harms his neighbor's livelihood as if he had ”defiled his neighbor's wife, ” and states that the slaughter of such a slaughterer is carrion and prey and it is forbidden to eat his flesh. He even warns that he will take harsh measures and publicize it (”I will put on the garments of vengeance...”) against anyone who violates the prohibition. Posters of this type have been printed and distributed over the years (sometimes many decades after (writing the original letter) when new local disputes arose regarding kashrut and slaughter, in order to rely on the ”Torah wisdom” of the great men of the past in these struggles.
