An antique silver mesh evening bag or purse (likely featuring filigree or fine silver-knit work). Bags and purses of this type were highly popular from the late 19th century through the 1920s and 1930s—the era of Art Deco and the ”Flappers.” They typically feature an ornate silver frame, a top clasp, and a flexible mesh or woven wire body; they often also incorporate decorative silver fringe or drops hanging from the bottom, as clearly visible at the base of the purse in the photograph.
