Bidspirit auction | A Chinese Blue and White
A Chinese Blue and White 'Story-telling' Bowl, Kangxi Mark. - A Chinese blue and white porcelain bowl, mark of Kangxi. The bowl features a flared rim, characteristic of a klapmuts form, and a circular foot. The exterior is decorated with a detailed continuous narrative scene of scholarly figures engaged in activities such as playing Go and a stringed instrument within a landscape of trees and rocks, bordered by patterned bands of geometric fretwork and stylized waves at the rim. The interior mirrors these decorative bands at the rim, with the central basin depicting a single seated figure amidst a gnarled tree or rock formation. The footrim is unglazed, showing a fine biscuit edge with some light gilt residue where it meets the glazed body. The base is marked in underglaze blue with a six-character inscription, 大清康熙年製, which translates to ”Made in the Great Qing Kangxi Reign.” D: Approximately 20.7cm Provenance: Private collection based in West London.
