A Glazed Ceramic Figural Chess King, 19th Century. A ceramic chess king modelled as a seated crowned figure, rendered in a rich turquoise-blue glaze. The figure is depicted frontally, resting his head upon one hand in a contemplative pose, while the other hand gathers the folds of his robe across his chest. He wears a cylindrical crown decorated with raised roundels, and his facial features are defined with pronounced eyes, arched brows, and a stylised moustache. The king is seated upon a block-form base, with cascading drapery carved in soft vertical folds flowing toward the lower edge. The reverse is decorated with simple scrolling motifs beneath a flared collar-like treatment at the shoulders. The glaze pools within the recesses, creating tonal variation across the surface and accentuating the sculptural details.
