An Indian Painting Depicting a Maharaja on Horseback, 20th Century. An Indian painting in opaque watercolour, depicting a richly attired Maharaja riding a caparisoned horse across a verdant landscape. The ruler is shown in profile, seated upright in a composed and authoritative posture, holding the reins with measured control. He wears an elaborate turban adorned with plumes and jewelled ornaments, together with layered necklaces and a finely patterned dark jama embellished with gold motifs. His attire is complemented by white churidar trousers and traditional footwear, emphasising his noble status. The horse, rendered in a deep reddish-brown tone, is lavishly decorated with embroidered saddlecloths, tassels, and ornamental harness fittings, including intricate detailing along the bridle and breastplate.
