A SOUTHERN INDIAN FOLK STYLE BRONZE FIGURE OF A GODDESS, 18TH/19TH CENTURY. - A South Indian cast bronze religious figurine, likely depicting a form of the goddess Devi, such as Parvati or Meenakshi. The deity is portrayed four-armed, seated in lalitasana on a tiered rectangular pedestal. Her lower right hand is held in abhaya mudra, the gesture of protection, while her upper left hand holds a parrot, an attribute frequently associated with South Indian goddesses. She wears a conical karanda mukuta crown and traditional jewellery. The robust, simplified proportions are characteristic of village or domestic shrine bronzes from Tamil Nadu or Karnataka.
