A MESOPOTAMIAN TELL BRAK CARVED STONE EYE IDOL - This carved stone votive figure is a Tell Brak type eye idol, originating from ancient Northern Mesopotamia and dating to the Middle Uruk period, circa 3500-3300 BC. The object is carved from a dark, fine-grained stone, such as basalt or limestone. The form is characterised by a flat, rectangular body with rounded lower corners, surmounted by two conjoined circular lobes. These lobes are centrally pierced with single holes representing eyes. This iconographic style is associated with the Eye Temple at Tell Brak, where such figures served as symbolic surrogates for worshippers, representing eternal presence and devotion before a deity. The piece exhibits a smoothed surface consistent with ancient hand-finishing techniques.
