A LARGE QAJAR ENGRAVED COPPER AND BRASS LOBED TRAY, 19TH OR 20TH CENTURY. - A large circular metalware tray or charger featuring a deep, eight-lobed scalloped rim. The item is constructed from hammered copper and brass, or tinned copper where surface wear has revealed the underlying base metals. The central field is densely decorated with a large eight-pointed star medallion at the centre, filled with intricate floral and foliate scrollwork. This central motif is surrounded by eight lobed cartouches, each depicting a seated figure in traditional Persian dress, with several figures shown playing musical instruments resembling a kamancheh or similar stringed instrument. The interstitial spaces between the cartouches are decorated with stylised flowering plants. The raised rim features a repeating minor floral border. D: Approximately 49.2cm
