AN OTTOMAN STEEL AND GILT BRASS CALLIGRAPHER'S SCISSORS, 20TH CENTURY. - A pair of Ottoman calligrapher's scissors, also known as scribe's scissors, of traditional tapering form. The construction consists of two steel blades that meet precisely to form a single pointed dagger shape when closed. The blades are secured by a central steel pivot. The handles are made of brass and show evidence of original gilding. The handles are cast with openwork geometric designs and feature scalloped finger loops.  L: Approximately 25.5cm
