AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND ENGRAVED AGATE CALLIGRAPHIC RING. - An Islamic ring set with a large oval carnelian cabochon, of the variety traditionally known as Yemeni aqeeq. The stone is of a deep reddish-orange colour with visible internal banding and features intaglio-engraved Arabic calligraphy with black pigment infill to provide contrast. The inscriptions include the Basmala to the upper right, the name Al-Rahman to the centre, and verses from Surah Ar-Rahman (55:3-4) to the lower section, which translate as Created man, taught him eloquence. The calligraphy is embellished with scrolling foliate vines and small five-petaled floral rosettes. The stone is secured in a substantial silver mounting featuring a scalloped bezel with petal-like projections. The shoulders of the ring are decorated with deep vertical fluting and cast stylized leaf motifs that taper into the shank.
