AN ISLAMIC SILVER OCTAGONAL AND CYLINDRICAL QUR'AN HOLDER BAZUBAND. - An Islamic amulet box assembly, commonly referred to as a tawiz or bazuband, constructed from silver. The assembly features a central octagonal hinged box flanked by two cylindrical amulet cases, all connected by hinges. The lid of the central box is decorated with a raised eight-pointed star motif within concentric circular borders, surrounded by a wide border of dense repoussé foliate and floral scrollwork. The vertical sides of the octagonal box are decorated with engraved rectangular panels featuring motifs including an elephant and a stylized lotus flower. The two cylindrical cases are decorated with continuous chased floral and foliate arabesque scrolls and are finished with smooth, domed end caps. Small suspension loops are attached to the outer edges of the cylinders, suggesting the piece was intended to be worn on a cord or belt. H: Approximately 7.5cm 94.9g
