A PERSIAN COPPER KASHKUL, 18TH-19TH CENTURY.. - A Persian copper kashkul . The vessel is constructed with a dark patinated surface and is extensively decorated with metal inlay. The decorative scheme includes multiple horizontal bands of Arabic calligraphy in Naskh or Thuluth script, interspersed with dense islimi foliate arabesque patterns and floral motifs housed within lobed cartouches. The domed lid features fine openwork piercing to allow for the release of smoke and is topped with a tiered finial. A cast zoomorphic spout projects from one end, terminating in the form of a dragon head with an open mouth. Two hinged loops are present on the upper shoulders, which originally secured a swing handle. The base is decorated with four large lobed cartouches containing floral sprays.
