A PERSIAN TINNED COPPER KASHKUL WITH DRAGON HEAD TERMINALS, 19TH CENTURY. - A boat-shaped kashkul or Sufi beggar's bowl, constructed from tinned copper. The vessel features a rounded body tapering to points at each end, supported by a low, circular flared foot. The terminals are fashioned as stylized mythical beast or dragon heads, each fitted with a loop holding a suspension chain of simple oval links. The exterior is decorated with extensive engraved and chased ornamentation. A horizontal band of calligraphic script in Persian or Arabic encircles the upper portion of the bowl. Below this, the body is divided into decorative panels containing central teardrop-shaped medallions with interlaced arabesque motifs, flanked by circular medallions featuring geometric knotwork.
