A PERSIAN QAJAR TINNED COPPER KASHKUL, 19TH CENTURY. - A Persian kashkul or beggar's bowl of traditional boat-shaped form, attributed to the 19th century Qajar period. The vessel is constructed from tinned copper and decorated throughout with intricate inlay. The decoration is arranged in distinct horizontal registers, featuring a wide upper band of calligraphic script in Persian or Arabic, including legible characters such as lam, alif, and sin. This band is set against a ground of fine foliate scrolls and is bordered by interlocking arabesque patterns. The main body of the bowl depicts a dense hunting scene, known as a shikargah, featuring various animals including deer, rabbits, and feline predators such as lions or leopards, all set within a field of flowering plants and scrolling vines. The bowl is fitted with two terminals in the form of cast metal dragon heads, showing detailed scales and open mouths. L: Approximately 36cm H: Approximately 16cm
