A LARGE PERSIAN QAJAR TINNED COPPER KASHKUL, 19TH CENTURY. - This large boat-shaped ceremonial vessel, traditionally known as a kashkul, is constructed from tinned copper and decorated with inlay. The vessel is attributed to 19th-century Qajar Persia, featuring a form and decorative programme that references earlier Safavid metalwork. The exterior is decorated with a prominent horizontal band of Nasta'liq script encircling the rim, set against a ground of scrolling foliate motifs. The main body is divided into large ogival panels containing complex arabesque patterns, palmettes, and scrolling floral vines. A band of repeating interlace pattern runs below the calligraphic border. The vessel is fitted with two zoomorphic handles in the form of dragon heads, cast and chased with scale patterns and open mouths. The bowl rests on a low, splayed foot with vertical gadrooning and a lower border of stylised lotus petals. H: Approximately 18.5cm L: Approximately 48cm
