AN INDO-PERSIAN ENGRAVED STEEL AXE HEAD (TABAR). - An Indo-Persian engraved steel axe head, known as a tabar. The object is constructed from forged steel with silver inlay applied using the koftgari technique. The head features a crescent-shaped blade, a cylindrical socket for a haft, and a flat, square-faced poll. The surfaces are decorated with dense scrolling foliate and arabesque patterns. A decorative border of small flower heads runs along the curved cutting edge. The flat poll is decorated with a geometric eight-pointed star design containing a central floral motif. An incised cartouche containing calligraphic script in Arabic or Persian is located on the top surface of the socket. L: Approximately 15.5cm
