ABU TALIB (PERSIAN, ACTIVE EARLY 19TH CENTURY) 'A COUPLE SEATED ON A RUG' (SIGNED). - This Persian miniature painting is executed in opaque watercolour and ink on paper, depicting an intimate scene of two figures. The composition features a woman dressed in a dark blue robe and red trousers holding a small white vessel, while a man in a purple garment and turban leans toward her from behind. The figures are seated on a patterned rug positioned against a large yellow bolster. The work is characteristic of the Qajar style and is presented with a central image surrounded by multiple fine-line borders and a thick red border, all mounted on a larger buff-coloured paper support. A Persian inscription in Nasta'liq script is located below the central image, reading Amal-i Abu Talib (Work of Abu Talib) followed by Sanah 1234, providing a date of 1234 AH, which corresponds to approximately 1818-1819 AD.
