M.F HUSAIN (1915– 2011), MODERNIST COMPOSITION WITH ISLAMIC CALLIGRAPHY, 1972. - A mixed media painting, likely gouache on paper, featuring stylized Islamic motifs and calligraphy in a modern graphic style. The central composition is dominated by black Arabic calligraphy which translates to Allah does not love the public utterance of evil (Surah An-Nisa 4:148). The surrounding imagery includes a white minaret topped with a crescent and star, a black square with an open book above it representing the Kaaba and the Quran, and a foreground containing palm trees, a white vessel, two bowls, and stylized mountain peaks. In the bottom left corner, there is a line of characters in ancient South Arabian Musnad script. The work is signed in the lower right with the letters Husain and dated 72 below.
