AN ISLAMIC OTTOMAN METAL-THREADED KA‘ABAH EMBROIDERY HANGING PANEL, 19TH/20TH CENTURY - A striking Ottoman textile panel composed of red silk ground richly embroidered with gold-toned metal thread, arranged in a bold and symmetrical architectural composition. The surface is divided into repeating chevron-shaped panels bordered with dense scrolling arabesques and intricate calligraphic bands. Prominently featured throughout are large embroidered Arabic inscriptions, including repeated declarations of the Shahada (“There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”), rendered in elongated and flowing script. Additional cartouches and medallions contain further calligraphic elements, all executed in raised metal thread against the vibrant red ground. Approximately 249x109cm
