A FATIMID GREEN AQUAMARINE CHESS PIECE, CIRCA 10TH–12TH CENTURY AD. - A substantial Fatimid moulded green aquamarine chess piece, of tall architectural form, the translucent pale-green body with a gently tapering profile and an angled upper section. The lower register is decorated in relief with a continuous band of stylised scrolling and foliate ornament, characteristic of the decorative vocabulary of the medieval Islamic world.
