English carved bone triptych depicting Frederick II and Voltaire - 19th century - carved bone triptych depicting, in the central panel, Frederick II (the Great) King of Prussia (1740-86) strolling with Voltaire (François-Marie Arouet, 1712-1786) in the gallery of the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam and, in the sides panels, the portraits of Frederick II and Voltaire. The central scene of the triptych also appears to have been depicted by Georg Schöbel (Berlin 1860 - 1941) in an oil painting on canvas 84.5 x 66 cm entitled 'Friedrich der Große im Gespräch mit Voltaire in den Räumen von Schloss Sansoussi'. Signed low left “Dubois”. Dimensions 40 x 63 x 1.5 cm. Item condition grading: **** good, defects and losses.
