Ventura Salimbeni (Siena, 1568 - 1613) Attributed to - Oil on panel cm. 40,5x30. Framed The painting has been attributed to Ventura Salimbeni by Prof. Marco Ciampolini (communication via email to the owner). On the reverse side of the panel there are two old inscriptions in brushwork. Lower right: ‘GERINO GERINI DA PISTOIA’; lower centre: ‘SEGNATO GGP / MD’. This beautiful painting on panel is closely based on a famous fresco by Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, known as Sodoma, called Madonna del Corvo . The work is now housed in a tabernacle on Via di Stalloreggi in Siena, but was originally painted by the artist for the façade of the Sienese bilding belonging to the brothers Antonio and Caterino Mariscotti.
