Ebonized wood and tortoiseshell coin cabinet Louis XVI, Northern Italy, 18th century - Height x width x depth: 48 x 93 x 28,5 cm. coin cabinet in fir wood, covered in ebonised wood with hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata, Cheloniidae) and engraved bone inlays. The sides are decorated with a refined geometric pattern created using walnut and rosewood veneer, while two bronze handles protrude from the sides for transport. The piece rests on two turned spherical gilded feet, which lighten its mass and enhance its elegance. The front is organised according to a regular pattern: six small side drawers, arranged symmetrically and without locks, framed by bone fillets and tortoiseshell panels, which give rhythm and colourful vivacity to the whole. In the centre is an inlaid architectural door, decorated with classical motifs featuring columns and a tympanum, which conceals hidden compartments and small drawers. Below it is another drawer, equipped with a lock, intended for storing more valuable items.
