A pair of large Chinese Imari-style porcelain vases with covers, China, late Qing dynasty - Height x diameter: 72 x 35 cm. Impressive baluster-shaped covered vases, decorated in Imari enamels in tones of cobalt blue, iron red, and gold, with stylized floral motifs and ornamental reserves of heraldic inspiration. The covers, surmounted by finely modeled and gilded Foo lions, complete the ensemble with a majestic and symbolic touch of protection and prosperity. The workmanship and quality of the decoration are characteristic of Qing dynasty porcelain produced for export to the European market — a period when large vases of this kind became key decorative elements in interiors and objects of Orientalist collecting.
