The engraving has been attributed by Jaco Rutgers to Salvatore Castiglione, brother of Il Grechetto, based on the engraved signature, visible on the examples held at the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam and the Galleria Sabauda in Turin (J. Rutgers, Not Giovanni Benedetto but Salvatore Castiglione, Print Quarterly, 21 (2004), 163-164). Fine impression on laid paper. Trimmed sheet, in excellent condition. Included: Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione Bearded man seen in profile facing right Etching, 108 x 80 mm. Bartsch XXI.28.34. Bearded man seen in profile facing left Etching, 111 x 84 mm. Bartsch XXI.30.40. From the series “Piccoli studi di teste all’orientale”. Very fine impressions on tissue paper. Trimmed, in very good condition, with light stains from old tape.
