JEAN-BAPTISTE POTOT Solid silver French entrée dish, Paris, 19th century - Height x width x depth: 15.5 x 28 x 23.5. Weight: 1407 g circular and domed shape with a snap-on lid. The lid has a decorative handle, modeled to represent a rich cluster of leaves that enclose and culminate in a flower bud. On the sides there are two finely chiseled handles, richly decorated with scrolls and foliage. 950/1000 sterling silver, hallmarked with the marks in use in Paris since 1838, bearing the mark for large objects “head of Minerva” and with the silversmith's initials J.B.P. for Jean-Baptiste Potot.
