Nautilus, Italy or France, late 19th century - Height x width x depth: 31 x 18 x 10 cm. Weight: 1160 g mounted on a circular brass base decorated with a band adorned with plant motifs, it supports a chiselled shaft embellished with small figures of cherubs resting on a scrollwork base. The body of the shell is set in a decorative brass frame with phytomorphic and rocaille applications, embellished with amethyst semi-precious stones and some larger cabochons. On the front are winged cherubs playing trumpets, symbols of triumph or announcement, a decorative element typical of the neo-baroque and neo-renaissance styles. A thin amethyst border frames the upper edge of the shell. Provenance: Count Luigi Rigi Luperti collection.
