Pair of Louis XIV-style Roman guéridons, Rome, first half of the 18th century - Height x diameter: 106 x 33 cm Crafted from carved and gilded wood, they feature a circular top supported by a sculptural shaft of striking visual impact. The central support is characterized by a cherub figure, captured in dynamic motion as it clings to a naturalistic trunk adorned with leaves and plant motifs—an element that lends the piece a sense of lightness and liveliness. The three-part base, also richly carved, rests on finely modeled animal-shaped feet, typical of Baroque decorative style, which ensure stability while accentuating the object’s monumental character. The rim of the top is adorned with leaf motifs and relief decorations, executed with great skill. The warm, luminous gilding enhances the quality of the carving and contributes to creating an effect of great prestige, making these guéridons ideal as accent pieces in classical or eclectic settings: objects of high prestige, originally designed to support sculptures, vases, or candelabras, today serve perfectly as decorative side tables or display stands.
