Carlo Maratti (Camerano, 1625 - Roma, 1713) Studio of - Adorazione dei Magi. Oil on canvas cm. 146x132. Framed The painting constitutes a faithful contemporary replica of the highest quality of the canvas executed by Carlo Maratti in 1656 for the Basilica of San Marco Evangelista in Rome. As is well known, Maratti’s workshop saw the passage of many of the finest painters active on the Roman and central Italian artistic scene between the second half of the seventeenth century and the early eighteenth century. In this splendid canvas, one must recognize an excellent product by one of the master’s best assistants and followers, with a level of painterly mastery that, in its most successful passages, rivals Maratti himself. Notably, in a recent study on the work, Alessandro Delpriori has proposed an attribution to Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari, who was without doubt Maratti’s most gifted pupil.
