Framed The painting belongs to the climate of transition from Baroque tenebrism towards the classical tendencies that became prevalent in Venice from the beginning of the eighteenth century. The arrangement of the figures and the composition show influences of Antonio Molinari and Antonio Balestra, but the more vibrant painterly ductus looks especially to Sebastiano Ricci, as evidenced by the freer and more fluid brushwork compared to Balestra’s classicism, while also reflecting aspects of contemporary Emilian painting.
