Sebastiano Bombelli (Udine, 1635 - Venezia, 1719) Attributed to - Ritratto di gentiluomo. Oil on canvas cm. 72x57. Framed Initially trained by his father Valentino, Sebastiano Bombelli completed his education in Bologna at the school of Guercino, before settling permanently in Venice. There he studied Paolo Veronese in depth, integrating the chromatic splendour of sixteenth-century Venetian tradition with the naturalistic tendencies of the “tenebrosi” painters. The attribution to Bombelli is confirmed through comparison with autograph works such as the Portrait of a Gentleman in the Museo Civico of Udine, the Portrait of Three Avogadori now in the Episcopal Seminary of Rovigo, and above all the Portrait of a Gentleman Snuffing Tobacco in a private collection.
