Pair of historiated candlesticks. Padua or Venice, 16th-17th century. Translucent black and brown patina. - 17.5 x 15.5 x 15.5 cm A beautiful pair of table candlesticks decorated with typical Renaissance iconography. A large circular base, decorated with masks linked by phytomorphic scrolls, supports a bobege supported by a baluster vase adorned with acanthus leaves and dragon scales. The stem and base are made separately and joined with an internal pin. Similar models can be found in the repertoire published by Planiscig, in particular a candlestick kept at the Louvre Museum of the same size (in reality half a centimetre lower) and attributed to the Paduan-Venetian school, early 16th century.
