Rampant Horse. Francesco Fanelli (Florence, 1577-Paris? 1663) School of. 17th-18th century. Bronze with a transparent reddish-brown patina over traces of dark patina. - 15.5 x 18.5 x 5 cm This beautiful rearing horse is based on the models of the sculptor Francesco Fanelli. Born in Florence, he worked in Genoa and later in London, where his works were greatly appreciated by Charles I. He may have died in Paris. Beautiful cast with a transparent patina, the body is well-crafted and glossy. The muzzle and mane are sinewy and well-shaped. The transparent reddish patina is very pleasing. The minimal cold finish makes it very intriguing, almost as if it were a cast bronze model. The freshness of the modeling, combined with the precision of the anatomical details, makes it seem as if the excessive chiseling had been used. Mounted on a beautiful green marble pedestal.
