Júlio Pomar belonged to the 3rd generation of Portuguese modernist painters, being the author of a multifaceted body of work, centered on painting, drawing, ceramics, and engraving, with important developments in the fields of sculpture and assemblage. He had intense artistic and civic activity throughout the 1940s and 1950s and is consensually considered the most prominent of the national Neorealism authors.
