Bidspirit auction | ANTIQUE TURKISH EREGLI RUG (ANATOLIA)
ANTIQUE TURKISH EREGLI RUG (ANATOLIA) - 20TH CENTURY (2.16 m²) - Excellent entirely hand-knotted wool rug on a wool foundation, featuring the classic typology and geometric rigor of the prestigious weaving region of Ereğli (Central Anatolia, Turkey). The piece stands out for its excellent tactile quality, presenting an exceptionally soft and plush texture to the touch, resulting from the careful selection of natural wools and the harmonious polishing conferred by time. The central field, in a characteristic deep red tone, is artistically dominated by a niche (mihrab), flanked by expressive stylized ”Tree of Life” motifs. The composition is framed by a meticulous triple border, where cobalt blue, olive green, and saffron yellow accents stand out, ending in fringes at the extremities. The piece presents an interesting historical and commercial particularity on its reverse: it bears a label classifying it as a ”Russian carpet,” an unequivocal testimony to the ancient routes of commercial redistribution and export through distributors in the Eurasian market, adding an additional element of provenance to the lot. It is in good general condition (small flaw in the fringe), exhibiting a natural patina ideal for high decoration or collecting. Dimensions: 177 x 122 cm (2.16 m2)
